Three rules of etiquette for WW D&D Game Day tomorrow

I`m just as pumped as you are, (wo)man! Worldwide D&D Game Day is tomorrow and its the yearly chance for this online DM to get out from behind the screen and from behind the monitor. With wifey sleeping from night shift, babysitting arrangements have been secured. However, let’s keep a few (yeah three) rules of etiquette in mind when visiting your Friendly Local Game Store on this glorious day.

1) Buy Something – Personally, I’ve already got a copy of the PHB2 so I won’t be buying another tomorrow. I’ve got all the dice I need and yadda yadda. However, my FLGS sells drinks and num nums too. Instead of coming with my drinkies and candies already in my pocket, I`ll bring some green and buy them there. The Core Mechanic had a great post about how to save your FLGS and this first rule certainly falls in there. Come to think of it, I’ve been on a real kick to play some Roborally but the game is very hard to find. My FLGS has a Game Library of games you are encouraged to play at their massive facility and I see Roborally is on their list. Hmm.. Wonder if they have a copy for sale. For small purchases (drinks and munchies), try to use cash as the credit card fees the store has to pay for that $1.37 drink purchase on your VISA may cost them 40 cents.

2) Don’t be a jack-arse – The potential exists that there will be new people trying out D&D for the first time. You, as an experienced gamer, may find yourself an unappointed role model or liaison officer and representative for D&D players across the globe! If these new players see you challenging every rule or getting overly uppity at bad rolls or any other negative actions, you may turn them off from D&D all together. Have a good time and show them you’re having it!

3) Thank Them – They’re putting on a free event for you. Yes, materials are provided by WotC but they still have to devote the manpower, table space, and prepwork involved in throwing the event. You don’t have to drop to your knees and do the fanning with your arms thing (though I’m sure it wouldn’t go unappreciated) but a simple “Hey thanks a lot for putting this on. I had a blast!”

After the day is through, I plan on posting a review of the event so keep an eye out for it.

Good advice. I’ll keep it in mind when I’m playing this afternoon. Come to think of it I could use a new set of dice.
